General Questions

What is color analysis?

Color analysis is a process where we use precision draping to identify the colors that naturally brighten your features, balance your undertones, and support your personal presence. You’ll leave knowing your season, your best neutrals, and the colors that make you look rested and radiant.

Where is your studio located?

Sugar Beet Studios is located in Bettendorf, Iowa and serves clients across the Quad Cities including Davenport, Moline, East Moline, Rock Island, and surrounding areas.

How long does a color analysis appointment take?

A full session typically takes about 1.5 hours. This includes draping, education, discussion, palette review, and your personalized guidance.

Do you offer virtual color analysis?

Yes. My virtual process is based on the same principles I was trained in through the International Image Institute and the advanced color-analysis methodology passed down through one of Canada’s foremost image experts (the mentor who helped shape many of today’s top analysts).

Virtual sessions use a refined, calibrated photo process designed to capture your features accurately, not quick filters or AI guesses. You’ll get the same clarity, education, and personalized guidance you’d receive in person.

Preparing for Your Appointment

What should I wear to my color analysis?

Wear a top that’s neutral, simple, and not overly dark or bright. A tank top or scoop-neck shirt works well. You’ll be draped with capes, so comfort matters more than style. Hoodies and anything above a jewel neck collar can interfere with the ability to comfortably place and view drapes.

Should I arrive without makeup?

Yes. Please come with a clean face. No foundation, bronzer, blush, tinted moisturizer, shadow, mascara, or brow gel. Also avoid artificial tanner and contacts that change the color of the eye.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes! Guests are welcome, but the focus stays on your session. If you want two full analyses, I offer a “Color With Your Bestie” Color for 2 option.

What should I bring with me?

Nothing is required. Just your beautiful self and an open mind to the possibilities of color.

During Your Appointment

What happens during the draping process?

We use carefully sourced drapes placed under your face to see how different undertones, values, and intensities interact with your natural coloring. You’ll see instantly which colors drain you and which bring you to life.

Will you tell me my season?

Yes. You’ll receive your season, core color characteristics, and personalized guidance that fits your real wardrobe and lifestyle.

Will this limit what I can wear?

Not at all. My approach is flexible and grounded. Color analysis expands your wardrobe options, it doesn’t restrict them. You’ll understand why certain colors work and how to use them confidently.

After Your Appointment

Do I get a physical or digital palette?

You’ll receive a digital palette delivered straight to your email, along with personalized recommendations and guidance you can start using immediately when shopping or building outfits.

If you’d like physical tools, I offer two optional add-ons after your appointment:

  • Swatch cards: $5 + tax

  • Color wallets: $50 + tax

These are simply tools, not requirements. Many clients love having something they can slip into a purse or take shopping, but you’ll leave your session understanding how to shop your colors with or without them.

Do you help with makeup?

Yes. I’ll walk you through makeup colors that support your season and how to shop for them confidently, whether you’re at Ulta, Sephora, Target, Walmart, or even Walgreens.

I don’t sell makeup, and I don’t believe in locking clients into one brand or system. My goal is to teach you how to recognize your best shades anywhere, at any price point, so you don’t feel dependent on me or pressured to buy specific products.

You’ll learn the undertones, textures, and color families that bring your natural features forward so you can choose products you genuinely love and feel empowered shopping on your own.

Do you offer follow-up services?

Yes. You’re always welcome to reach out with questions. I’m currently expanding my styling offerings as Sugar Beet Studios grows.

Training, Experience & Credentials

What training and experience do you have in color analysis?

I’m trained through the International Image Institute, where I studied directly under Karen Brunger, one of the industry’s most respected educators with decades of experience in color theory, draping, and image consulting. Working one-on-one with her in Canada shaped the foundation of my approach and gave me a depth of understanding that goes well beyond surface-level color systems. My education emphasized accurate draping, undertone analysis, harmony principles, and evidence-based methodology, not trends or quick guesses.

I’m also a proud member of the Association of Image Consultants International (AICI) and currently the only registered AICI member in the state of Iowa. AICI sets the global standard for professionalism, ethics, and continuing education in this field.

My work has reached clients locally and internationally. I’ve draped people across the Quad Cities, throughout the Midwest, Canada and even in Ireland. My goal is always the same: to create a grounded, welcoming, deeply personalized experience that helps you see yourself clearly and confidently.
